The eldest son of John McCance, (and the only son by his first wife), he was born in Dunmurry, Co Antrim, in 1801. He lived at Glenville , and ran the bleach green at Suffolk, which he inherited from his great-uncle William, (though his father, who was busy in politics, had had the use of it during his lifetime). He was J.P. for Belfast (1835) and for Co Antrim (1836) and Co Down (1851). He married Isabella Russell (1802-1860), (daughter of John Russell of New Forge, Co Down) on 30th Apr 1824. They had ten children; John
(1826) He died in Manchester on 14th Apr 1865 and was buried at Drumbeg, where there is an inscription on the Memorial erected by John McCance (b.1772). |
