The eldest son of James McCance, born on 7th Nov 1856.  We know little about him except that he became F.R.A.S. in 1878 and lived in Sutton, Surrey.  He married Annette Maud Tull (b.1855), daughter of John Tull from Berkshire, on 22nd May 1883, and they had three children, Mary (1885), John Law (1888) and Marjorie Moutray Jeanette (1890)
