James Law McCance  (1814-1872)

The eldest son of John McCance, by his second marriage, he was born on 29th March 1814.  He was J.P. for the counties of Down, Antrim (8 Feb 1847) and Armagh.  Also Resident Magistrate at Newry Co Down.  He lived at Beechwood, Kingstown Co Down and died there on 12 Jan 1872.  He was buried at Drumbeg where there is an inscription on the Memorial erected by John McCance (b.1772).

He married Jeanette Macaulay (1826-1882), who was the eldest daughter of Frederick William Macaulay, and they had four sons.  James (1856), John (1859), Stouppe (1864) and Henry (1867).
