The seventh son of John McCance, he was born in Dunmurry on 23rd May 1829.  He became a J.P. for Co Antrim, D.L. (Deputy Lieutenant?) in June 1886 and High Sheriff in 1894.  He lived at Larkfield, Dunmurry, (apparently, with his younger sister, Charlotte) which is where he died, unmarried, on 24th Oct 1900.  and was buried at Drumbeg, There is an inscription on the Memorial erected there by John McCance (b.1772).
