The eldest son of John McCance, he was born in 1736 and moved to Knocknagoney where he founded that branch of the family with his wife, Jane Wilson (1760-1842).  He held land near Holywood in Co. Down but was not involved in the linen industry like the other side of the family.  They had one son, John, born in 1784, and daughters, Sarah and Rachel.
