The only son of James Stuart Nares, he was born in Bristol on 20th Feb 1956.  He has worked as a Chartered Accountant in the hotel and restaurant industry for the last 20 years.

He married Ruth Schwartz in 1979 and they have two sons, Richard (b.1985) and Michael (b. 1987).
