Amy Nares (b. 1859)

The eldest daughter of Sir George Strong Nares.  She married Bulmer Howell in 1880 and had six children.

Their eldest son, Owen, was born in 1881.  He went to Rugby and Oxford (Merton College), married Norah Malley and had two children, Peter and Gillian.

Their daughter Anna Marguerite, (1883-1965), married John Addinsell and had three children, John Nares (1908-1991), Paul (1910-1993) and Prudence Mary (b.1920).  (Much further information about the Addinsell family can be found in the genealogy section of John Kendal's website).

Their second son, Geoffrey, born in 1885, went to Bradfield College and Sandhurst.  Joined the Gordon Highlanders in India in 1905 and went into the 19th Lancers in 1906.  He received a medal for service in the Momand Rising and served in the Great War in France and Palestine and received the MC.  He married Aileen Dalgleish and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Pamela, and a son, Gordon.

In 1887 they had twin girls.  The first, Mary, married Edwin Craig and had three children, Colin, Alice and Cameron.   The second, Aimee, married Granville Craig and had five children, Carmen, Iona, Ailsa, Eleanor and Patience.

Their youngest son, Norman, was born in 1892, went to Sandhurst in 1910 and passed out in 1912.  He was a member of the Repton shooting eight at Bisley.  He was gazetted to the Royal West Kent Regiment, promoted to Lieutenant in 1914. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India and was in the Persian Gulf campaign for several months in the Great War.  He was killed in action in 1915.
